Jennifer Chiaverini’s new Elm Creek Quilts novel is A Quilter’s Holiday. The not yet released fictional story, her fifteenth book, is filled with the warm traditional family musings her readers have come to love. The book will be released November 3, 2009, and will not disappoint.

Annual Holiday Tradition at Elm Creek Manor

Tucked into the Pennsylvania countryside, the usual gang of Elm Creek Manor quilters is gathering for their annual holiday tradition. Each year the quilters come together with scrumptious new dishes remade from the left over Thanksgiving feast and spend the day quilting new projects.

In A Quilter’s Holiday, Diane, with a reputation for rabble-rousing, reminds everyone it marks the official start to the quilting season. She even has unsuccessfully nagged the National Quilter’s Association to make it a recognized holiday. Diane is not deterred but goes headlong into another confrontation considerably more dangerous. Gwen, her fellow quilter, revels in this bit of drama. Readers will be reassured these two original members have returned with their familiar back and forth bantering in tow.

The calm late autumn morning start at Elm Creek Manor belies the unexpected changes arriving with the approaching frosty storms. The cornucopia and feed-sack cloth aprons found by Sylvia and Anna during the renovations, Sylvia’s long lost family members, located by Summer, and revelations about Gretchen’s past each provides new inspiration for future quilting projects and stories recounted throughout.

Jennifer Chiaverini’s Story Telling

Elm Creek fans readily recognize Jennifer Chiaverini’s ability for story telling. Madison author, Chiaverini meshes the continuing sagas of original characters with more recent additions to the series.

In A Quilter’s Holiday, each chapter provides a look at the day’s events through the perspective of individual quilters. She intricately weaves Gretchen’s and Anna’s past into the story of A Quilter’s Holiday, revealing Gretchen memories of life with Joe and Anna’s fondness, not just for cooking.

Patchwork Quilts Day After Thanksgiving

The patchwork quilt designs and the lifestyle of quilters is the backdrop for the stories of Elm Creek Manor. On the day after Thanksgiving, the quilters have brought projects, each one making a quilt for someone special.

But the character Sylvia treats readers to a new holiday tradition, as well. Everyone brings a quilt square to share; Agnes brings a Signs of Spring block. Elsewhere in A Quilter’s Holiday readers will find variations of Log Cabin, Chimneys and Cornerstones and Bear Paw handiwork mentioned.
