Joe Hill is an American author and comic book writer who is most well known for his debut novel, Heart Shaped Box, published by William Morrow/HarperCollins in 2007. The limited edition of this novel had first been released by Subterranean press. The novel was a bestseller. Biography:Joe Hill is the pen name for Joseph Hillstrom King. He was born on June 4, 1972 in Maine, where he grew up. Hill is the second child born to novelists Stephen and Tabitha King. Yes, that Stephen King. Hill graduated from Vassar College and is the father of three sons. Hill wanted to be recognized for his own merits as a writer and dropped the last named King. After receiving some independent success, he publicly confirmed his identity as the son of the famed horror writer. Honors and Awards:Hill won the Bram Stoker award for Best Fiction Collection for his collection of stories titled 20th Century Ghosts published in 2005 by PS Publishing. He also won the British Fantasy Award for Best Collection of Short Stories. Heart Shaped Box also won the Bram Stoker award for Best First Novel and International Thriller Writers award also for Best First novel. Hill is a past recipient of the Ray Bradbury fellowship. Other awards include the William Crawford award for Best New Fantasy Writer in 2006 and the 2006 World Fantasy Award for Best Novella, "Voluntary Committal." Published Works: Although Hill is best known for his best-selling novel Heart Shaped Box , his stories have appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies, including The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror and The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror. He is also the author of Locke and Key, a new comic book series published by IDW publishing. Heart Shaped Box is a horror novel centered around the character of Judas Coyne, an aging rock star who collects morbid curios. When he buys a haunted suit through an online auction site, he soon discovers that the suit once belonged to Craddock McDermott, the stepfather of one of Jude's discarded groupies. Craddock's ghost is a malignant spirit determined to kill Jude in revenge for the suicide death of his stepdaughter. Shaken and tormented, Jude and his new girlfriend take to the road with their dogs in an effort to outrun the ghost and find a way to stop it.
